Home Field Testing

By:

I was born and raised on the Island of Molokai where my parents have a home.  Molokai being the last of the truly “Hawaiian” islands is now in danger of being developed.  My parents asked me to return and testify in a public hearing regarding the development of some coastal land adjacent to their property.  I took the opportunity to get out and do a little field testing on the flats.

Taking a morning walk back home.

I as well have a long history in Hawaii. Molokai, especially the north shore, holds so many fond memories for me. Spent many summers taking fishing trips, exploring the valley’s, etc. Had some great Oio and Papio fishing in Waikolu!

Would hate to see any part of that island changed for the worse.

Unfortunately now that Maui is overdeveloped they are starting to focus on Molokai. I am here to try and stop a vacation rental development going in. They want to build on a Puna Wai (spring) that flows right out of the beach into the ocean. These are key for development for food sources for opai (shrimp) and other baits that keep the fish populations and reefs healthy.

To answer your concern I would say there are people here that want to develop the shoreline of Molokai regardless of the cost to the environment or for the rule of law. You know how it is on this island the development commission is so corrupt they will pass anything.
